For young Irishmen and women seeking to find better job opportunities abroad, the Canadian government has very good news.
Just recently, the Canadian government announced that it is offering an expanded working holiday programme for young Irish people who want to move to the North American country.
The announcement came amidst a record allocation of 10,700 visas for Irish citizens, up from 6,350 visas from the previous year, as more and more Irish people are travelling to Canada in search of a better life.
According to reports, 7,700 of these visas given to Irish citizens were reserved for open work permits, known as working holidays under the IEC Programme.
The remaining 3,000 visas are still available, but for those who want to claim them, they must obtain a pre-arranged job offer from a Canadian employer.
Also, of the 10,700 visas granted by the Canadian government, 2,500 of them were granted to young Irish people who have received job offers from Canadian employers. However, only 545 of these visas had been claimed since March 2014.
With the Canadian government allocating more visas for interested young Irish professionals, many large employers and companies in the country are expected to take advantage of the opportunity to find new talents and prospective workers in the coming weeks.
The construction and engineering sectors, in particular, are said to be quick to act and they are keen on hiring workers from Ireland.
For young Irish people who are looking to complete an internship in Canada, there’s also some good news for you.
The International Co-op (Internship) visa category is designed for Irish citizens who are registered students at a post-secondary institution and are looking to complete a work placement in Canada as part of their degree or academic curriculum. With this type of visa, they can stay in Canada for up to 12 months.
To qualify for the International Co-op category, there are certain requirements Irish citizens must fulfill.
Applicants should obtain a signed letter of offer or contract for a work placement or internship in Canada. This contract should meet the requirements of their academic curriculum in Ireland.
