When Cadbury announced that it has changed the recipe of its iconic Creme Egg, everyone was up in arms about it. The country was outraged and some even joined an online petition, demanding that Cadbury rescind its decision. But if you’re going to think about it, Cadbury’s Creme Egg is not the first well-loved food to change recipe or grow smaller. Let’s take a look at some of the famous snacks that have grown smaller or have changed in taste over the years.
1. Honey Nut Loops
Kellogg’s Honey Nut Loops used to be as good as sweets. They used to be little hoops of honey magic. As the years went by, however, fans of this breakfast cereal have noticed that they no longer taste like before. Probably it is because Kellogg’s has reduced its sugar content.
2. Chickatees
Tayto’s Chickatees used to be bigger and tastier. But now, its packaging has become smaller. And don’t get even started on its taste. It seems that this has become a trend amongst corn snacks in Ireland because Chickatees is not the only one that has drastically changed over the years. Mighty Munch and Chipsticks did, too.
3. Snax
Snax deserves a corn-based outrage of its own because it looks like the manufacturers have forgotten that they were supposed to put corn chips inside each package, not air.
4. Roses
Cadbury Roses taste like coffee now. And what’s worse is that each container of Roses keeps getting smaller and smaller.
5. Brunch
If you have been a long-time fan of this ice cream bar, you’ve probably stopped eating Brunch at one point in time. Over the years, the beloved ice cream bar has become less crumbly and the ice cream inside has become much harder. Good luck sinking your teeth into that one.
6. Smarties
Nestle’s Smarties has never been the same since they took those E numbers. Aside from the noticeable change in the taste of these candies, there’s also a significant modification on how they are packaged. You can’t even collect 20 pence pieces in the tube anymore.
7. Marietta
Jacob’s Marietta used to be a treat. But just like some of the country’s most beloved snacks and foods, Marietta has undergone a drastic transformation. Now, it is just like a smaller, harder Rich Tea.
8. Cadbury’s Caramel
Gone are the days when you have to unwrap Cadbury’s Caramel to enjoy it.
